Medium edged bars are rectangular osmiun bars that are crystallised out of the plane. This creates bars of different weights and surfaces. Each bar is unique, as no identical pieces can be produced. The layer thickness of the bars is slightly different and produces a different sparkle due to the respective crystallisation time, which also determines the thickness. The dimensions are different for each bar.

For investors in kind, it makes sense to choose medium edged bars with a larger surface, as there is more geometric freedom in cutting shapes with these pieces. More different shapes can be cut from one bar in the wire-cut EDM for the creation of flat 2D shapes. Several medium edged bars can be exchanged for big round bars free of charge at the Osmium Institutes if desired. This allows the collection of medium edged bars by the piece to then later obtain a big round bar that is exchanged gram for gram. The big round bar is the most favourable geometric shape in comparison between the circumferential edge and the large inner surface.
