Fine osmium is classified in commodity class 2 of the customs commodity classification register for osmium. It has a purity of 3N5 to 4N and has also been purified to remove specific elements which, in certain applications, would act as impurities and restrict its use. It is the most widely used form of osmium in more than 15 industrial sectors. Its areas of application are explained in detail, illustrated, evaluated and summarised in the 600-page publication ‘Osmium – Yesterday – Today – Tomorrow’. Fine osmium is stored in collective custody, with one per cent charged annually on the value of the goods, in the Osmium World Council’s high-security warehouse.
